For years ive neglected my health, withdrawn largely from public view, resorted to just getting my monthly disability check and "surviving". Lately this hasn't been enough for me. I want to get out, go back to school get a job meet people ect ect. A couple things stand in my way. Because of my various disabilities i find myself unable to get to public transportation. Ok - so paratransit does come out to my house which is great, but it equates to as much or more than a cab cost wise, which doesn't leave me the ability to go out more than a couple times a month at max. Right now my roommate is taking me places when she goes out to run errands, which is also great, but i feel like a total loser begging for rides to things. I put off going to school because she's not the most healthy person herself, and i would miss way to much school if i relied on her for my only transportation. Same goes for work, i have no reliable way to get to work, and would only end up losing a job if i constantly missed or was late from lack of transportation. So my solution would be to get a car... Well , a few problems with that. for a car loan most places require an income greater than 16,000 a year (SSI pays less than 10,000 a year) and I have no drivers license. (Department of rehab might be able to help me with that provided i can get my hands on a car, or show that I have the funds to get a car. I also have a friend willing to teach me how to drive, providing i have my own car and my own insurance. Many things to make me even more self sufficient are within my reach with a car. 1. Various car related jobs - delivering pizza, driving a cab, a job lately ive been interested in but much to my disappointment when I went to take classes, I found I need a license for, - forklift driving. Now i have in the past been able to pass the written part just fine, but from lack of reliable cars with which to train in i sadly had to let my permit lapse because i have been unable to pass a driving portion of the test due to no car to practice driving in. I've been faithfully surfing craigslist in hopes of finding a car I can afford, but rarely does a 600 or under car come up, and it's usually going to cost at least that much to repair - even with the help of our local automotive school. i did join http://www.freecharitycar... (same user name) - but i do find it's hard to get votes when you have few friends and family (here in the USA) I'm pretty much looking now for even the smallest hint of a program that might help, or someone who is getting rid of an old car that's willing to donate it to me - pretty much anything. I'm not close to dying (I hope) , I don't have small kids who are dying or struggling to meet the very basic of needs, I'm just physically not able to walk much, and really want to make a positive change in my life before its to late.

FREE CARS AND FREE CAR REPAIR HELP

two suggestions. one look and see if there is an automotive school anywhere near you. Most schools will do the work for free, if you pay for the parts - but you can get an estimate of what that will cost before they do anything. 2. I dont know if you get any sort of financial help via food stamps, but there is a program Temporary Assistance Needy Family (TANF) that if there is funding available and you meet other requirements - such as being under a certain income... that they might help pay for repairs, but you need to have a quote for cost of repairs first on that as well..
